The Platyzoa (pronounced /ˌplætɨˈzoʊ.ə/) are a accumulation of protostome animals proposed by Thomas Cavalier-Smith in 1998. Cavalier-Smith included in Platyzoa the Phylum Platyhelminthes or flatworms, and a new phylum, Acanthognatha, into which he aggregate several ahead declared phyla of diminutive animals. Subsequent studies accept accurate Platyzoa as a clade,1 a monophyletic accumulation of bacilli with a accepted ancestor, while differing on the phyla included and on relationships aural Platyzoa.

Phyla
One accepted arrangement places the afterward acceptable phyla in Platyzoa:
Characteristics
The Platyhelminthes and Gastrotricha are acoelomate. The added phyla accept a pseudocoel, and allotment characteristics such as the anatomy of their aperture and pharynx, although these accept been secondarily absent in the parasitic Acanthocephala. They anatomy a monophyletic subgroup alleged the Gnathifera.
The name "Platyzoa" is acclimated because a lot of associates are flat, admitting rotifers are not.2
Classification
The Platyzoa are abutting ancestors of the Lophotrochozoa, and are sometimes included in that group. Together the two accomplish up the Spiralia.
